SCENT NOTES: green apple + spearmint + aged bookshelves + quidditch leathers + autumn air + hints of caramel

The faint musk of aging book leather and parchment surrounds her, alongside the rich dark wood of the Restricted Section’s many bookshelves. The mysterious murmuration of unruly books whispers amidst the stacks, rustling their pages against chains tethering them to their shelves. Though it may be day beyond these dim corridors, the shadows here are thick, gathering and swirling in every corner—perfect for hiding far more than simply forbidden tomes. Somehow that quality that makes this place the perfect meeting spot. The threat of censure makes a post-quidditch practice rendezvous all the more tantalizing, to be sure, but, more than that, it simply seems fitting that this relationship exist only here among so much rare and dark arcana. House loyalties and divisions are shed as easily as his Slytherin scarf falling to the floor, her wand following not long after—a testament to her sense of safety with him in this space that they had long since claimed. As she tangles her fingers in the soft platinum strads of his hair and breathes in the smell of his quidditch uniform—heady leather and hints of the autumnal air he was just flying in—she knows that these are her ceremonials and himself her altar; in that first heated kiss, a combination of spearmint and the sweet-and-sour bite of green apple, she knows that this is her ritual unhallowed. And he too worships her in his own way, like the sweetest taboo and with a flame of rebellion. It’s esoterica only they understand and she knows deep down that she’s already spellbound, swept up in a current and being dragged under, enthralled by this corruption. And somewhere in the back of her mind she wonders how this ‘wanting’ that’s so wonderfully bewitching could be considered so wrong—and how long she’ll be able to hide it.

I wanted “Restricted Section” to evoke more than just a single person or a place, but an entire scene of Hogwarts-era romance—with a certain youthfulness to it rather than being entirely dark and seductive—the very beginnings of a post quidditch rendezvous; the first heated kiss. The result is a fragrance designed to land gracefully near the realm of a more traditional fall scent: apple, woods and leathers, alongside a collection of autumnal hints lingering in the background of the scent, like a hint of spice and a bit of leafy pumpkin. I find that this also makes for a beautiful transition scent between fall and winter, its spearmint notes an unexpected pop of freshness in the way of the first winter chill.

Hand poured with natural, vegan coconut soy wax and decorated with heather leaves & flowers, crushed rose petals & dried pepper tree berries.

These 7oz candles are made in mint glass Antiquarian vessels.
